Grocery Store

Our Pay What You Can Grocery Store is located in the Junction neighbourhood in Toronto (at Dundas St. W and Runnymede). Our store is staffed completely by volunteers and we rely on your support to stay open. You are welcome to volunteer occasionally or on regular days/weeks.

A day in the life: Truck loads of donated food are delivered to the store daily. Most of the morning is spent unloading the deliveries, organizing and sorting the food, and putting it out for display on the shelves. Customers will come and go throughout the day, and volunteers are there to introduce them to the PWYC system, answer any questions, assist them in their shopping, and making conversation. Volunteers of all abilities are welcome.

Address: 3324 Dundas Street West, Toronto
Operating hours: 7 days a week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Volunteer shifts: Morning (9:30 am to 1:30 pm) or Afternoon (1:00 pm to 6:00 pm)
Maximum volunteers: 3 per shift

FIF Farm

Feed It Forward is very fortunate to have a partnership with Greenwood Farms who provide us with the use of their farmland to grow our own produce. Our volunteers plant, grow, maintain, and harvest the land and then distribute the produce through our programs. Many people rely on food banks and food drives and receive high-sodium non-perishables. A diet lacking fresh produce is not ideal, which is why the farm is so critical to Feed It Forward’s mission. It allows us to sustainably grow fresh fruits and vegetables for those who otherwise may not have access to it.

Please note: The farm is currently closed but opening day is planned for May 19, 2019.

A day in the life: Our farm volunteers consist of couples, families, children, students, community and school groups, and other individuals who have an interest in sustainable farming. The farm is a beautiful place to spend a Sunday giving back. Everyone is welcome. Our volunteers help by planting, weeding, and harvesting produce. There is a barn for shade and breaks, as well as washrooms. You are encouraged to bring water and sunscreen. Our volunteer coordinators will help to connect drivers with those who need rides.

Location: Greenwood Farms, 8875 Lakeridge Road, Whitby
Date: Every Sunday, late May to September
Shifts: 10 am to 4 pm

Humber Soupbar

Feed it Forward has partnered with Humber College to launch Soupbar, an on-campus pay-what-you-can soup bar. Soupbar offers healthy and delicious soups made from rescued food which otherwise would be sent to landfills. Our goal is to address the pressing issue of food insecurity faced by many college students each year. We are looking for volunteers to staff the Soupbar during operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please note: The Soupbar is winding down operations for the 2018-2019 school year. Volunteer signup will open again in September 2019!

A day in the life: To prepare for opening, volunteers will help with heating the soups, slicing bread and other toppings and setting up the Soupbar serving area. Volunteers will serve soup, assist students with dietary needs and explain about our PWYC model. Closing involves cleaning of utensils, equipment and the serving area and storing away any remaining soups and other foods. It is a very high energy, friendly environment, so prepare to have fun!

Location: Humber College North Campus, 205 Humber College Blvd., Etobicoke
Days: Every Tuesday and Thursday (seasonal from September to April)
Shift: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
